Job description: The 504 Coordinator performs functions specific to providing oversight for the requirements under state and federal disability discrimination laws, regulations, and guidance in order to advise the school about proper policies and practices. The 504 Coordinator monitors, implements, and assures compliance with state and federal laws prohibiting disability discrimination, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The 504 Coordinator protects qualified individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disability.



Duties and Responsibilities


  • Serve as a daily resource to the district administrators, school leadership teams, and other stakeholders.

  • Serve as the school?s liaison to the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

  • Facilitate the implementation of the district?s Section 504 policies and procedures by initiating and monitoring 504 eligibility.

  • Coordinate eligibility determinations, evaluations, reviews and all meetings for students.

  • Partner with classroom teachers to ensure compliance in meeting students? needs.

  • Coordinate prevention efforts to avoid Section 504 and ADA violations.

  • Provide training and support to PRA staff regarding Section 504 and the implementation of the Section 504 policies and procedures.

  • Consult with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff as needed to provide assistance and guidance related to Section 504.

  • Ensure all necessary school stakeholders have access to 504 plans in order to assure implementation of needed accommodations.

  • Work closely with various stakeholders at the school to support students covered under Section 504 including, but not limited to; Student Support Team, General Education Teachers, Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Team, School Counselors, and the Assessment Team.

  • Assist with the school?s Child Find obligations.

  • Investigate complaints alleging violations of Section 504/ADA and/or discrimination based on disability and assist in providing resolution in order to meet required timelines.

  • Collect and maintain accurate and compliant data and records for all students covered under Section 504.

  • Coordinate testing accommodations for students with 504 plans and administer state testing as needed to provide necessary accommodations.

  • Act as the main point of contact for the school for all Section 504 responsibilities and for all students covered under Section 504.

  • Stay abreast of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to disability discrimination, Section 504 and Title II of the ADA, by attending regular trainings and participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.

  • Report any 504 violations and all discrimination allegations to the School Level Principal, HR Manager, and Executive Director.

  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.

  • All work responsibilities are subject to established performance goals and/or targets.

Education and Related Work Experience

  • B.A. or B.S. required.

  • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.

  • Commitment to the implementation of Character Education and a Positive Behavior System.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, policy and expectation documents, staff agreements, evaluation rubrics, curriculum maps and materials, and student assessment documents.

  • Ability to effectively document classroom observations, analyze data to improve instructional practices, and correspond with staff from all levels.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators, and parents.

  • Ability to understand and carry out written, oral, or diagram form instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate different tasks.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills while working with a diverse population.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • The employee is regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear.

  • The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

  • This position reports to the Middle School Principal.
