World Relief Upstate SC is looking for an experienced ESL instructor to coordinate ESL learning opportunities and teach ESL classes to adult refugee students living in the Spartanburg area. With the support of the Employment/ESL team, the ESL Coordinator for Spartanburg will assist in program development, volunteer tutor support, and instruction while incorporating digital literacy and job-readiness skills. Classes may be held on Saturdays or evenings and may be in person or online. This position is intended for three month with possible extension depending on funding

Compensation: $18-$20 per hour n



Role & Responsibilities


  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.



  • Create and teach ESL lessons through virtual or in-person classes that incorporate English literacy, digital literacy, employment, and job-readiness skills

  • Assign and provide feedback on homework assignments for students enrolled in WR's independent study program



  • Create and record video tutorials to supplement instruction as needed

  • Assist students in exploring and setting English learning goals

  • Conduct home visits with assigned clients to determine English learning needs and opportunities

  • Adapt lesson plans and materials for a multilevel classroom

  • Assist students in the use of technology and online learning platforms before and after enrollment as needed

  • Guide and assist classroom and/or in-home tutor volunteers

  • Conduct formal and informal student assessments according to department guidelines



  • Document and communicate student attendance, levels of participation, and classroom trends to program staff

  • Meet with students as needed during office hours

  • Complete all required professional development trainings in a timely manner

  • Maintain proper case notes as required for program donors

  • Maintain clear and timely communication with staff

  • Attend all required staff meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in TESOL, related field or TESOL certification

  • Minimum of 1 year of ESL teaching experience
