Job description:
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Delaware Teacher of English Learners Standard Certificate in accordance with 14 Del. C. ? 1562.
OR
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Delaware Bilingual Teacher Standard Certificate in accordance with 14 Del. C. ? 1561 and certification in at least ONE content area.
  • Experience teaching high school students preferred.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish, French and/or Haitian Creole preferred.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high quality instruction in small group settings in both push-in and pull-out models to identified and unidentified students alike.
  • Administer required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement of students, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
  • Assist in developing and modifying appropriate curriculum to help EL students acquire the English language.
  • Participate in professional learning communities to refine curriculum, share student data, and develop appropriate activities to help EL students.
  • Participate in school and community functions to serve as an advocate for EL students and families.
  • Act as co-teacher in the general education classroom setting when necessary while employing a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and academic success by creating a positive achievement oriented learning environment.
  • Record and maintain accurate data records for students who receive EL services as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, families, and school colleagues concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Provide for his or her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, reflection, workshops, seminars and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule and the Professional Agreement. Ten-month teaching assignment.

Salary and Benefits: Salary range and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with Board of Education Policy.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board?s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
