Job title: English Language Development Program Specialist

Job description: Under the direction of the Supervisor of ELD, the Program Specialist?s responsibilities will be related to the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, curricula, staff development and support of all English Language Learners. The Program Specialists will be responsible to help build and sustain an instructional culture focused on collective inquiry and data driven analysis to improve instruction and student achievement through the facilitation of PLCs.

The Program Specialist will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support and increase effective instruction and student learning. Each specialist will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. The Program Specialist will provide personalized support based on teacher specific goals or identified as a need of the individual teacher. Program Specialists also support the design of online courses, establish effective communication and relationships with all stakeholders, develop expert knowledge and practice of online teaching and course design, and perform other administrative duties as assigned as part of this role.

Responsibilities:

Professional Development
  • Design and implement professional development for staff or support the professional development sessions as needed.
  • Design and implement professional development sessions related to delivery of instruction for English Language Learners in general education classes or support professional development as needed.
Maintain Pedagogical, Technological and Contact Knowledge
  • Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools
  • Facilitate the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of teachers and school goals
  • Actively engage in research regarding best online teaching and learning practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and the use of supplemental programs to assist in students' acquisition of knowledge
  • Demonstrate the use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction
  • Actively engage in personal professional development, such as conferences and social media, to learn about new innovative instructional strategies
  • Develop expert working knowledge of the learning management system
ELD Program Consultation and Coordination
  • Work with CCA?s stakeholders to assist all teachers in implementing best teaching practices for English Learners.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to CCA stakeholders in response to working with English Learners.
  • Assist teachers with activities and concerns including instructional strategies and appropriate EL modifications and accommodations
  • Consult with Supervisor of ELD and ELD specialist to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
  • Observe teachers in their Guided and Live Classroom sessions and offer insights for the enhancement of teaching-learning situations
  • Assist teachers in utilization of school curriculum to develop variants for various EL proficiency levels
  • Provide guidance and instructional support to enhance special and general education teacher pedagogical skills and strategies and work with K-12 General Education Content Specialists and Instructional specialists with student data and instructional support programs
  • Recommend ways in which the curriculum can be ?prioritized to meet the needs of English Learners
  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies
  • Model lessons when appropriate
  • Provide support for analyzing student data
Facilitate Professional Learning Communities
  • Lead the PLC process for their content area or grade level group(s) and use research-based strategies, processes, and protocols to ensure a collaborative teaching environment focused on improving student learning.
  • Each PLC has 4-5 teachers thus, this position will be responsible for holding PLCs with many groups of teachers each week.
  • Participates in ongoing PLC professional development opportunities.
  • Manages the continuous improvement/feedback cycle for curriculum and assessment in their content areas with the ELD curriculum coordinator.
  • Participates in ongoing training for PLC implementation
  • Leads grade-level (content-level) and vertical articulation meetings outside of PLCs if necessary.
  • Prioritizes and unpacks standards to understand specifically where to make instructional improvements
  • Focuses on common assessments and collects evidence from common assessments using data protocols and analyzes student products.
  • Focuses on instructional strategies in classrooms that are producing results and unpacks strategies in high performing classrooms to share across PLCs and through professional development.
  • Provides PLC process support to teachers
  • Push in and support other content area or grade level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) when necessary

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

Requirements:
  • Valid PA certificate in Elementary K-6, Middle Level ELA, or English 7-12
  • Valid PA Program Specialists ESL K-12 certificate
  • Instructional II status
  • Minimum 3 years teaching a virtual setting, preferred
  • Master of Education degree, preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Preferred Education and Experience
Additional certifications demonstrating an understanding of teaching specialized learners such as Special Education, Reading Specialists, preferred.

Travel
? Travel may be required for this position.
