Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati Department of English seeks applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Poetry, full-time, tenure-track.
Essential Functions
- Teaching 2 courses per semester in our undergraduate creative writing major and our doctoral program in poetry.
- Advising undergraduate majors, and mentoring Ph.D. students (including participating on and/or chairing qualifying exam and dissertation committees).
- Performing service for the department, university, and profession.
- Producing and publishing creative works.
- Research and teaching in the creative writing subgenre of literary translation.
- Service may include departmental and extra-departmental committee work such as the assumption of departmental bureaucratic responsibilities as a part of our faculty's self-governance model
- Coordinating and hosting artists for the Visiting Writers Series.
- Serving affiliate units at the University.
- Providing service to the profession.
Prior to the date of appointment, all of the following are required:
- An MFA or a Ph.D. in Creative Writing.
- A full-length book of poetry from nationally recognized presses.
- At least one national literary award from a major literary organization (such as the National Endowment for the Arts, Academy of American Poets, Poetry Society of America, PEN Literature, Guggenheim Foundation, Poetry Foundation, or comparable).
- At least three academic years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
