Job description: The Peabody Institute is seeking a Senior Instructional Technologist to join the Learning Innovation team to lead in the development and delivery of online and technology-facilitated courses, as well as the exploration and implementation of new technologies. These technologies include but are not limited to virtual reality and augmented reality in education and music studies; artificial intelligence related to music studies, creation, and classroom education and the Canvas Learning Management System and integrated tools. The senior instructional technologist should be a curious troubleshooter and will provide primary instructional technology support for course and eLearning creation and related resource development including audio and video components, web assets, and training materials for faculty, staff, and students. The senior instructional technologist will help mentor student workers, providing guidance and vision on technology development and adoption, training and support, and course development and delivery.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities


  • Develop communication for faculty and students.



  • Serve as primary support triage facilitator and lead internal faculty and student support for teaching and learning through technology.



  • Analyze data and lead reporting on student engagement and faculty utilization of instructional technologies.



  • Lead the piloting and testing of innovative instructional technology tools and services.



  • Administer technology systems, including but not limited to multiple Learning Management Systems and other instructional technology tools.



  • Collaborate with instructional designers and multimedia technicians in the design and development of a sustainable and engaging learning experiences.



  • Conduct regular faculty trainings on instructional technology tools and services.



  • Perform a quality assurance review of all courses being developed to ensure adherence to internal standards.



  • Maintain and improve upon the instructional technology infrastructure at the Peabody Institute including the daily operation, use, and configuration of video streaming platform, learning management system, and relevant licenses for course production and delivery.



  • Create user and other documentation as needed, including reference and job aids.



  • Support the implementation of sound User Experience Design throughout our various offerings and delivery media.



  • Collaborate and consult with other distance education and instructional design and technology staff at Johns Hopkins and other universities.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with online synchronous and asynchronous course delivery.



  • Technical proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.



  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines.



  • Experience and demonstrated competence with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.



  • A passion for solving tough problems and proposing helpful solutions.



  • An ability to learn and adapt so that you can help teach others.



  • Take a user-centered approach to support and training.



  • Functional ability in HTML and CSS.



  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a knack for taking technical language and making it understandable.



  • Demonstrated technology skills and ability experience with the major learning management systems, digital audio and video production, graphic design preferably Adobe CC, and issue and project tracking using a task management platform.



  • An understanding of and respect for the unique demands and characteristics of Conservatory and Preparatory students and faculty members.



  • Technical qualifications or specialized certifications.



  • Knowledge of the following will be considered a plus: Canvas, Panopto, Articulate 360 and Rise, AEFIS/HelioCampus.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented team player who is capable of participating in collaborative instructional development processes and activities, is able to work independently, and has strong intellectual and analytical skills.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field

  • Five years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience managing technology projects.

  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting technology-enabled classrooms.

  • System admin experience with the Canvas Learning Management System and associated video platforms and syllabus management tools.

  • Familiarity with SCORM and LTI.

  • Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience working with higher education faculty and staff.

  • Master's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field.

Starting Salary Range: Min $55,200 - Max $96,600 ($75,900 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
