Position Summary



Is this position exempt from overtime pay?

Under the direction of the principal, in collaboration with the Director of Alternative Education, plans and implements a program for students to improve student performance, attendance, behavior, remediate academic deficiencies and facilitate student success in the traditional school and virtual programs. . Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities



Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?



No



1. Conducts student needs assessment and Individual Success Plan, as needed.



2. Plans appropriate curricular interventions based on identified student barriers to student learning.



3. Develops and implements strategies for involving disengaged students in the in-class or virtual school program.



4. Acts as case manager for a specific group of vulnerable youth: provide mentoring; organizational skill development; study skills instruction; support for families; and provision of linkages to necessary community agencies.



5. Fosters communication with students, parents, community agencies and professional organizations across the county.



6. Assists in the development of program components and activities designed to enhance the school's continuum of supports and services for students and implementation of school improvement and strategic plans.



7. Supports the professional growth and development of teachers by coaching innovative instructional strategies, materials and programs for students experiencing barriers to in-class or virtual learning.



8. Monitors and evaluates discipline data to inform interventions and supports for students.



9. Ensures appropriate academic scheduling to meet the needs of diverse learners through consultation with counselors and administrators.



10. Collaborate with behavioral specialists and student advocates for support in implementing effective behavioral interventions.



11. Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

Education



? Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.



Experience



? Three (3) years of outstanding teaching experience. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.



? If assigned to bilingual program, candidates are required to be bilingual and biliterate in targeted language. Otherwise, bilingual and biliterate in target language preferred.



? If assigned to Virtual Academy, one (1) year of experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools is required.

? Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.



? Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year.



? Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).



Licenses/Certifications



? Hold or be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) professional teaching certificate.



? Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced professional certificate (APC) preferred.
