Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience. (Anticipated hiring range: $72,600- $ 81,700 per year).

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (CMB) or related field. Candidates nearing completion of the terminal degree may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than the start date of the position. A demonstrated ability or potential to establish externally-funded research, a record of publication, and a strong interest in teaching and enthusiasm for mentoring students in research are also required.

Responsibilities:

This position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching assignments total 10-14 class hours per week. The teaching opportunities for this position include lower and upper division as well as graduate level cellular molecular biology courses. The position includes opportunities to teach non-major's courses. Scholarship duties include developing an externally-funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, supported by a startup package including research space, equipment and supply funding, and partial release time from teaching in the first two years of the appointment. Service opportunities include committee work and academic advising of majors in the BS degree in CMB and in a newly developed BA in biological sciences program. This new BA provides a foundation for students entering healthcare careers (pre-physician's assistant, pre-nursing, pre-occupational therapist, etc.).

The Department:

The Department of Biological Sciences includes 12 full-time tenure track faculty, 11 master's students, and 347 undergraduate biology majors with options in cell & molecular biology, organismal, evolutionary, and ecological biology, or plant biology, as well as microbiology majors in general or clinical lab microbiology. Department programs are enhanced by diverse laboratory and field facilities, media preparation and stockrooms, and greenhouses and core equipment that support faculty research involving molecular genetics, cellular, proteomic, and imaging applications are available in the department. The Department has five very active student clubs. The College of Natural Sciences ( ) has further resources including biochemistry faculty with expertise in microbial proteomics and physiology.
