Job description: The Healthcare Services Information Systems Specialist coordinates activities pertaining to the design and maintenance of Frontline electronic health record (HER), troubleshoots and corrects system and user application problems that occur on Healthcare Services technology devices, and handles related calls and issues. The specialist acts as the primary liaison between Healthcare Services and Information Technology on health record issues.

The specialist provides high-level expertise, training, and support to Healthcare Services staff and nurses to include electronic health record management and data analysis. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees? Retirement System (PERS).



Job Requirements

The following are required: * An associate?s degree focusing on computer technology and training or a related field of study. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.


  • Two years of experience in an information technology environment.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience troubleshooting and working with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and applications.

  • Experience with helpdesk software.

  • Must have exceptional listening and logical reasoning skills to analyze problems and determine effective solutions.

  • Must have own transportation and a current Alaska driver's license and be prepared to use it for Anchorage School District business.

The following are preferred: * A bachelor of science degree focusing on computer technology and training or a related field of study.

  • Experience with ASD locations, applications, and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others.

  • Ability to effectively provide technical assistance to users.

  • Ability to handle stress, learn and adapt to new systems, situations, and requirements.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to assist subordinates.

  • Ability to understand and interpret ASD policies and procedures.

  • Experience with video editing.

  • Experience with electronic medical records keeping.

  • Knowledge of health information data processing and analysis.

Essential Job Functions * Documents and troubleshoots systems, user applications, and supported peripherals, and performs as a lead application subject matter expert.

  • Creates and develops training manuals and aids for applications.

  • Provides application training for nursing and health services staff as required.

  • Creates, develops, and maintains an electronic inventory of hardware, health supplies, vaccines, and other health services hardware and check out/in items.

  • Supports the implementation of the service level agreement policies and procedures.

  • Supports the implementation of the methods to improve key performance indicators, critical success factors, and continual service improvement.

  • Develops user guides, videos, and other instructions on the use of the electronic information system (Q).

  • Evaluates courses of action and proposed solutions to problems in the Q test environment.

  • Advises staff on policy, procedures, and priorities as they pertain to the information systems.

  • Compiles audits and verifies various statistical Healthcare Services reports as directed.

  • Provides ongoing technical assistance to Healthcare Services staff of supported systems and applications.

  • Support school-start and year-end processing activities.

  • Develops and maintains an on-line library of ASD nursing/health forms, templates, and informational documents as directed.

  • Assists in evaluating and recommending new microcomputer application software and hardware configurations along with upgrades and enhancements to existing microcomputer application configurations.

Physical /Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
