Reporting to the Director of Students, the Tutoring & Writing Center Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) supports a campus-wide peer tutor program through recruitment and hiring of tutors. This position will plan and coordinate the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of the Tutoring and Writing Center Services. As part of the duties, the Coordinator will also be responsible for overseeing the Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader program.

Responsibilities

Designs, coordinates, and implements programming for Tutoring and Writing Center Services under the supervision of the Director of Students.

Promote the tutoring and writing center services on campus and at various USU Blanding sites.

Utilize proactive approaches to identify students with tutoring and writing needs before and during each semester.

Coordinates supplemental instruction program in collaboration with the Office of Academic Belonging & Learning Excellence (ABLE).

Recruit, train, supervise tutor/writing staff. Recruiting may include working with faculty throughout the semester to retain a viable tutor applicant pool.

Develop and coordinate regular training sessions for tutors and other staff.

Develop tutor/writing certification programing or participate in local or national tutoring and or writing certification programs.

Maintain tutoring schedules.

Collects and analyzes data; prepares reports; and maintains program records and statistical information.

Utilize online tutoring scheduling software.

Keep abreast of and implement best practices for tutoring services and materials.

Facilitates workshops, seminars, meetings, and special projects.

Writes, edits, and coordinates development of promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree plus two years of related work experience; OR a bachelor?s degree in a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience as a tutor or in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing a tutoring/writing center.
  • Bachelor's degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Program specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notice.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
