Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Utah State University invites applications for a tenure-track academic year (9-month) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Translation and Interpretation with expertise in Portuguese. For this teaching-centered faculty position, we seek to hire an individual with experience teaching, research and/or professional praxis in Translation and Interpretation Studies. This position is located on the Logan campus, but will also provide instructional support to USU?s statewide students and campuses. This individual reports to the WLC department head. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

Responsibilities

Entry level position; teach courses in Portuguese language, literature, culture, and translation; conduct scholarly research and publish results of research; implement new courses in Portuguese language; advise/mentor major/minor students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in Portuguese or related field by August 15, 2023 (ADB will be considered) Candidates who are ABD will be hired as an Instructor.
  • Native or Near-Native Portuguese language proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Portuguese language, literature, culture and translation
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and publish results of research
  • Evidence of teaching and professional excellence in his/her field
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability and/or experience to teach in the Translation Program
