Full Time Medical Receptionist with immediate start
Posted 2025-03-14We are a busy private GP practice looking for a full time medical receptionist. This role requires varied hours Monday - Saturday.<p><br></p>This is a fast-paced GP practice environment, and we are looking for someone who is pro-active, excellent at multi-tasking, efficient, can think outside the box and show initiative. Flexibility is also key.<p><br></p><strong>Duties And Responsibilities Include</strong><p><br></p>Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.<p><br></p>Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.<p><br></p>To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.<p><br></p>To work in accordance with written protocols<p><br></p>Fax and photocopying as requested<p><br></p>Virtual filing once correspondence/results scanned<p><br></p>Opening and distributing post to Doctors, Practice Manager and Finance Manager<p><br></p>Reception<p><br></p>Dealing with patients coming into the Practice for appointments with Doctors, Osteopath etc.<p><br></p>Booking appointments with patients face to face and via telephone adhering to book on the day slots<p><br></p>Registration of new patients<p><br></p>Process patients change of address.<p><br></p>Taking accurate and relevant telephone messages<p><br></p>Receiving and giving prescriptions from and to patients always checking their name and address and ensuring prescriptions are circulated to available doctor<p><br></p>Process repeat prescription requests in accordance to Practice guidelines<p><br></p>Make sure that reception and the waiting are always kept tidy<p><br></p>Deal appropriately with visit requests and emergency calls<p><br></p>Carrying out reception duties as mentioned in the Reception Handbook<p><br></p>Answer phone calls in a professional manner aiming to answer calls within 3-6 rings wherever possible<p><br></p>Prioritising whether calls are urgent or routine and wherever possible deal with requests/issues<p><br></p>Ensure building security (windows closed at night, alarm set, fire doors shut etc.<p><br></p>Any other tasks allocated by Doctors, Finance Manager or Practice Manager<p><br></p>Knowledge of private patient membership scheme and chargeable fees<p><br></p>Responsibility for handing over any unfinished tasks for annual leave cover so all reception staff are kept informed.<p><br></p><strong>Communication</strong><p><br></p>The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication with the team and will strive to:<p><br></p>Communicate effectively with other team members.<p><br></p>Communicate effectively with patients and carers<p><br></p>Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.<p><br></p><strong>The Post-holder Will</strong><p><br></p>Contribution to the Implementation of Services:<p><br></p>Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance.<p><br></p>Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.<p><br></p>Participate in audit where appropriate.<p><br></p>If you are interested in this position and feel you have the right skill set for the role, we would love to hear from you!
