OVERVIEW: The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21. Job Title: Senior Instructional Support Coordinator (MSSD) Worker Type: Regular Pay Type: Salary Exempt Status: Yes Compensation Grade (Track/Level): CA3 Hiring Range (Commensurate with experience and qualifications): Salary Ranges (All Compensation Grades): Clerc Center Supervisory Organization (Department): Academic Programs Summary: Reporting to the Director of Academic Programs, the Senior Instructional Support Coordinator provides support in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math that facilitates change in standards-based instructional practices to enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically, interpret and apply student data to inform instructional planning, apply evidence-based instructional strategies to enhance teaching, assess student learning, and evaluate instructional effectiveness. Job Description: Provides leadership for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math programs, projects and school wide initiatives that support student achievement in standards-based education within an ASL/English bilingual environment; and demonstrates appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction. Sets high expectations for the implementation of key instructional shifts to implement Common Core State Standards and the K-12 ASL Standards, and the use of best practices that align with school improvement plan annual goals and strategies presented in school wide professional development sessions. Works with the Superintendent and STEAM Master Teacher in developing a comprehensive STEAM program; identifies programming and oversees all curriculum needs and scheduling related to the STEAM lab; identifies Professional development needs; and shares the successes of the program and fostering partnerships with outside agencies. Works with the MSSD Instructional Leadership Team and teachers in organizing grade level/department meetings in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of instructional program and practices throughout the school. Assists with coordinating school-wide assessments; and monitors data and activities for the Excellence by Design plan. Assists teachers in building a repertoire of instructional strategies that send messages of high expectations for all students; and plans, collaborates, and mentors teachers to improve the instructional program. Participates in the design and implementation of professional development and/or training to meet teacher and department needs and school wide goals; and provides customized training and skill-building activities for teachers in research-based instructional best practices. Conducts performance evaluations of teachers and staff as assigned; meets all applicable deadlines; and recommends personnel actions. Analyzes classroom environments, instructional structure, and student learning expectations and recommends strategies for improvement. Works with teachers to differentiate learning and assessment activities and experiences to promote instruction that meets the wide range of students learning styles, needs and strengths. Observes instruction and provides prompt and specific feedback to teachers on enhancing instructional effectiveness. Develops professional relationships with teachers that support and enhance reflective practice. Serves as a member of the MSSD Instructional Leadership Team and the Clerc Center Instructional Leadership Team; and serves as a building marshal for all building evacuations and crisis response plans. Uses multiple sources of data and information to assist teachers in interpreting and applying student data to inform and enhance instructional effectiveness. Supports teachers with making the connection between their role and Clerc Center priorities. Provides additional support to new and less experienced teachers. Locates and shares resources between grade levels and departments. Establishes, maintains and enhances effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders. Serves as an active, contributing member of the Clerc Center community and Gallaudet University as a whole. Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors. Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning. Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis. Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents. Performs related and other duties as needed. Required Qualifications: Master?s Degree. A minimum of three years of professional teaching experience in a K-12 setting. Ability to communicate in American Sign Language. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students. Experience with science, mathematics, or technology. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning. Strong ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals. Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, research and best practices in Language Arts and literacy within a bilingual environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong skills in creative problem solving and decision-making. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Demonstrated experience in teacher evaluation and staff development. Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups. Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
