Job Description Summary
Southwestern Michigan College is seeking a Part-Time ETS Middle/High School Tutor who is dedicated, enthusiastic and excited to work with low income first generation middle and high school students.

The ETS Middle/High School Tutor guides students through middle and high school and onto a post-secondary education. This position will be under direct supervision of the ETS Director and ETS Tutor/Mentor Coordinator/Advisor. The incumbent is responsible for assisting middle or high school students to reach their full academic potential and achieve academic success. Tutors can work up to 24 hours per week. This is an academic year position only; there are no summer hours.

Required Qualifications
? Associate's Degree with 3.0 or better in the subject to be tutored

Preferred Qualifications
? Bachelor's Degree in Math or related tutoring subject
? Coursework toward math degree acceptable
? Teaching experience with middle and high school students

Other Information Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ? Serves students in Cass County schools. Provides participants with both individual and group tutorial sessions, homework assistance to improve grades and GPA, and instruction/tutoring for standardized assessments. ? Maintains appropriate records of hours and teaching notes. ? Must assess needs of students and prepare written documentation ? Be a positive role model; establish rapport and build relationships; set expectations and boundaries; facilitate, teach, or instruct. ? Excellent listening and interpersonal skills; excellent problem solving skills and good judgment; knowledge of reading and math fundamentals; knowledge or tutoring or teaching techniques; and knowledge of working with disadvantaged and underrepresented youth. ? The duties listed in this job description are not all-inclusive, but a list of the major responsibilities. Additional duties not noted in the job description may be assigned by a supervisor. Candidates will not be compensated for drive time to schools. Mileage will not be compensated unless Tutor is placed at multiple target schools and with the approval of supervisor.

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

3. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

4. The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position.
The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
