Position Summary

The Indiana University School of Education at Indianapolis is seeking an exemplary tenure track Assistant Professor faculty member to contribute to our progressive Urban Teacher Education program with teaching and research strengths in social studies education; a commitment to urban education and communities; and a readiness to partner with local schools to provide transformative teacher education.

The School of Education at IU Indianapolis is an urban serving institution located in the heart of Indianapolis. Our School of Education has approximately 30 full time faculty all of whom are actively engaged in teaching, scholarship of teaching, and research focused on urban education. Many of our faculty have scholarship interests that focus on social justice and anti-racist practices, partnerships with urban communities and schools, and critical perspectives in education. Duties:
? Design and implement social studies teacher education curriculum that grounds pre-service teachers in deep understanding of critical social justice pedagogy, human development, and urban communities within strong field-based experiences.
? Collaborate with faculty in the urban teacher education programs to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with local schools.
? Conduct scholarly research, publications, and grant-writing.
? Lead ongoing program development, innovation, and evaluation as program Coordinator for Secondary Education.
? Mentor and advise students in our Urban Education Studies doctoral program, our urban education masters programs, and our undergraduate teacher preparation programs.
? Provide service to School and university committees, professional organizations, and the community.

Basic Qualifications

Required Qualifications: ? Doctorate in social studies teacher education, curriculum studies, urban/multicultural education, or foundations of education (in one or more areas- sociology, history, or philosophy of education). ? Professional teaching experience in urban K-12 schools. ? Curricular and instructional expertise in Culturally Relevant/Sustaining Pedagogy and other asset pedagogies. ? Strong methodological training in research and record of scholarship and grant activity. ? Capacity to teach social studies methods courses in the undergraduate programs and graduate courses in the master's programs and the Urban Education Studies doctoral program. ? Record of positive impact with youth in urban schools, universities, and/or communities.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
