The Department of Art and Design at Indiana State University offers NASAD-accredited programs and seeks a Tenure-Track in Digital Art Faculty. This is a full-time appointment with responsibilities focused on organizing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to design foundations and digital art that enhances and supports the mission and vision of Indiana State University, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Art and Design.

The Digital Art program is taught in the Media realization Center (MRC) housed in a recently renovated Fine Arts building. The $15 million state-of-the-art facility includes 1,300 square feet of flexible space designed for collaborative experimentation with cutting-edge technologies including industry-standard software, projection mapping, animation, HTC Vive-based virtual reality system, mobile technologies and mixed reality, 3D printing, large-format scanning, stop-motion animation, chromakey, video and sound production. The MRC also houses a wide-range of equipment including unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), 360-degree/4K video cameras and TV displays, projectors (including short-throw and stereoscopic projectors), portable VR equipment, audio recorders, drawing tablets and lighting kits.

The department is excited to work collaboratively with the incoming faculty member to develop curriculum in their area of expertise, which may include one or more of the following: Character Design for Game and Film Industries, 2D Animation, 3D Modeling and Printing, Digital Video Production, and Digital Concept Design for Game and Film Industries.

The primary responsibilities include teaching face-to-face Fundamentals (in 2D Design, and Time-based media) as well as all levels of Digital Art courses including the history and theory of the media. Additional responsibilities include monitoring, maintaining and managing the (MRC) and equipment.

Responsibilities include mentoring students; contribute with academic advising; engage in student assessment as per department standards. Engage in research/scholarly/creative and service activities at levels that are appropriate to faculty rank and departmental tenure/merit criteria. Provide service to the Department of Art and Design, the University and the profession. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, advising, and thesis/dissertation supervision.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students. Demonstrate professionalism, including emphasizing due dates and attention to detail, in both their own work and that of students. The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. The ability to work effectively and patiently with students. Keep current with upgrades and advancements in computer platforms and software used in digital art practices. A commitment to teaching students and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential. Meet service requirements related to the Department of Art and Design, the College of Arts and Sciences and the University. Work collaboratively with colleagues and Department Chair.

Additional responsibilities include use of instructional technology, working with diverse learners, communicate effectively, demonstrate effective curriculum, instructional, and assessment practices. Perform other related duties as assigned.

The preferred candidate will have:

A terminal degree in the field by the start date. Art/Fine Arts, or in a field pertaining to the course(s) for which the candidate is hired.

Preferred Relevant Education and Experience:

Two years teaching design foundations at the college or university level. Graduate school teaching appointment or Teaching Assistantship will be considered.

Knowledge of traditional art and new media. Knowledge of digital manipulation of graphic elements necessary for the acquisition of skills in Animation, video, 2D digital animation, 3D modeling Concept Development and Character design for Game and Film Industries. Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas.
