Assistant Professor of Practice K-6 in Literacy Education

The University of Indianapolis invites applications for an
Assistant Professor of Practice in K-6 Literacy Education. This
full-time, 9-month appointment in the School of Education begins in
the 2025-2026 school year. Professor of Practice positions are
3-year, non-tenure, renewable contracts. Candidates of diverse and
minority backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.
In this role, the successful applicant will teach literacy courses
and supervise students in practical classroom experiences for
programs in Elementary Education, Transition to Teaching, and
Literacy Specialists Master?s program. Responsibilities will also
include teaching in various settings, including on-campus
classrooms, clinical settings, online environments, and evenings or
weekends, as needed.
It is preferred the applicant have a doctorate in Education (ABD
acceptable) with a specialization in Literacy, particularly Early
Elementary Literacy, the Science of Reading, and instructional
strategies for culturally and linguistically diverse learners. A
minimum of three years of teaching literacy in an elementary school
is required.
This position is highly collaborative. The successful applicant
will work closely with faculty, students, and school and community
partners to foster creativity,
collegiality, and innovation. An active scholarly research agenda,
including publications and presentations, is preferred.
Responsibilities
? Collaborating both inside and outside of the University to
develop and deliver instruction that results in improved student
learning.
? Teach and supervise students in K?6 Literacy Education
? Provide instruction in various modalities (on-campus, clinical,
online, evenings/weekends)
? Maintain an active research agenda (publications,
presentations, grant-writing)
? Collaborate with faculty, school partners, and community
stakeholders
? Participate in curriculum development and program
assessment
Qualifications
? Earned doctorate in Education (ABD acceptable) with a focus on
Literacy, particularly Early Elementary Literacy, the Science of
Reading, and instructional strategies for culturally and
linguistically diverse learners.
? Minimum of three years of teaching literacy in a K-6 school
setting.
? Possession of an Elementary Teaching License.
? Demonstrated Science of Reading training.
? Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with
experience working with faculty, students, K-12 school partners,
and community groups.
? Experience developing and leading effective instructional
strategies that enhance student learning.
? Proven ability to work collaboratively both within and outside
the university to develop and deliver instructional programs.
? Evidence of an active scholarly research agenda, including
publications and presentations.
