HR Generalist/Payroll Specialist

Great opportunity to join our growing team and be a part of a business that helps people during one of the most difficult times of their lives. We are a funeral home consolidator that owns and operates approximately 100 funeral homes across the United States. We have 850 employees, and currently have a human resources department of 3. We?ve made many improvements in the past few years (updated employee manual, performance management system, electronic onboarding, etc) but still have so many more opportunities to improve.

We?re looking for a HR Generalist/Payroll Specialist who ?
? Has a minimum of two years? experience with all areas of payroll, including onboarding and offboarding, preferably with a firm with locations/companies in multiple states. Current payroll experience preferred.
? Has a minimum of three years' experience as a HR Generalist, preferably with a firm with locations in multiple states. Current HR Generalist experience preferred.
? Has experience conducting workplace investigations and handling employee complaints.
? Has excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with emphasis on diplomacy in dealing with sensitive employee issues and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
? Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and is willing to look beneath the surface while completing tasks.

This position will be primarily remote, but there will be travel to the locations required at times. Central, Mountain, or Eastern time zones preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities

HR Generalist
? Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
? Performs professional level human resources work and carries out responsibilities in one or more functional areas, such as, staffing, employee relations, compensation, training, employment, labor relations, safety, affirmative action and employment equity programs, and personnel research.
? Conducts workplace investigations.
? Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
? Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
? May attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
? Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
? Ensures all new hire benefit enrollments and employee benefit changes are completed in a timely manner.
? Creates all separation documents for terminating employees and ensures all separation transactions are performed timely.
? Performs other duties as assigned.

Payroll Specialist
? Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees? hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
? Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
? Maintain HRIS personnel records and compiles reports from the system as needed.
? Assist with maintenance of all HR processes and documentation on HRIS system.
? Strong attention to detail, able to detect and resolve issues.
? Conduct payroll research into discrepancies and issues.
? Oversees procedures and processes and manages inquiries and requests related to preparation and distribution of payroll.
? Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
? Processes and ensures 401k contributions are processed in a timely manner.
? Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
? Maintains or oversees the maintenance of employee records.
? Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
? Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
? Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

? Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization?s HRIS and talent management systems.
? Experienced in conducting workplace investigations.
? Must travel to company locations when needed.

Education and Experience:
? High school diploma or equivalent required
? At least two (2) years? experience with all aspects of payroll
? Intermediate Microsoft Excel
? Knowledge of iSolved payroll program a plus
? At least three (3) years? experience as an HR Generalist

Physical Requirements: ? Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. ? Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
