About the position

The Assistant General Counsel, Commercial Contracts at SoFi plays a pivotal role in providing commercial and contract advice to various business units and functions across the enterprise. This position is essential in ensuring that the company's contractual agreements align with its business objectives while minimizing legal risks. The individual in this role will be responsible for preparing high-quality negotiation documents that reflect a deep understanding of contract terms, legal compliance, and SoFi's financial policies. The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with business relationship owners to identify potential risks and negotiate terms that are beneficial to the company. This position requires a balance between the profitability needs of the business and the legal protections necessary to safeguard SoFi's interests. In addition to contract negotiation, the Assistant General Counsel will be tasked with developing proactive strategies and documentation to support negotiation goals. This includes coordinating with various departments within the company to ensure timely execution of contracts and adherence to established milestones. The role demands strong influencing skills to guide negotiations effectively and drive them to closure, ensuring that all contractual obligations are met and documented appropriately. The Assistant General Counsel will report directly to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and will operate in a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility in work location.

Responsibilities
? Establish negotiation objectives and schedules to support and meet business requirements

? Prepare first quality negotiation documents that reflect an advanced knowledge of contract terms and conditions
,
? Understand business requirements and SoFi's risk tolerance
,
? Support the business relationship owner to identify risks and negotiate beneficial terms
,
? Use highly qualified influencing skills to direct and control the negotiation schedule
,
? Maintain business focus that balances the needs of the business for profitability with ensuring the contractual terms protect SoFi
,
? Drive the negotiation to closure and reach agreement with suppliers on commercial, financial, and legal contractual issues
,
? Execute and finalize all documentation required for contract closure
,
? Develop proactive tactics and documents to execute strategies and goals
,
? Assign, coordinate, and follow-through on the involvement of all areas of the company in a timely manner

Requirements
? JD from an accredited law school
,
? Active membership and good standing in the New York or California bar
,
? 3+ years of experience in representing issuers and/or underwriters in structured finance ABS transactions
,
? Excellent writing skills and ability to multitask and work independently
,
? Ability to embrace change and thrive in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities
