Mortgage and Consumer Underwriting Manager
Posted 2025-03-14Responsible for overseeing the underwriting process for mortgage and consumer loans, ensuring that all applications are evaluated accurately and efficiently. This role involves managing a team of underwriters, establishing guidelines, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Hours:
Full Time, 40 hours/week
Bank Hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm. Hours must be worked primarily within that timeframe
Minimum of 4 full days in office required

Duties and Responsibilities: ? Leadership and Staff Management: Supervise, mentor, and motivate staff including the following: ? Conduct regular staff meetings and performance evaluations. ? Schedule staff to business needs, including training and professional development opportunities. ? Approve staff time off according to bank policies. ? Provide coaching, mentoring, training, and education to staff. ? Manage performance and employee relations issues with confidentiality, timeliness, professionalism, and tact. ? Attend interviews and recommend hiring/staffing decisions to HR. ? Share relevant and important information with staff through regular meetings to address questions and concerns. ? Meet one-on-one with staff members at least bi-monthly to review performance and progress on goals. ? Attend relevant meetings and communicate information to staff. ? Policies and Procedures: Maintaining awareness and understanding of compliance, market conditions, and best practices in order to create and implement appropriate policies and procedures. ? Application Review: Assessing loan applications to determine borrower eligibility based on creditworthiness, income, and financial stability. ? Credit Analysis: Analyzing credit reports and scores to evaluate the risk of lending to a borrower. ? Risk Assessment: Identifying potential risks associated with the loan and recommending appropriate lending programs and terms. ? Financial Analysis: Examining borrowers' financial statements, employment history, and debt-to-income ratios to assess their ability to repay the loan. ? Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring that all loan approvals comply with legal regulations and the lender and investors' policies. ? Collaboration: Working with loan officers and other stakeholders to streamline the loan approval process. ? Reporting: Preparing reports on loan applications and outcomes to help management make informed decisions. ? Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements: ? High School Diploma or equivalent required. ? Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field preferred. ? 3 to 5 years experience with mortgage and consumer underwriting required. ? Management experience preferred. ? Strong understanding of mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment. ? Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. ? Strong leadership and communication abilities. ? Strong analysis software/computer proficiency (Encompass preferred), including Word and Excel, database and ability to produce tables of information. ? Ability to make decisions with little supervision. ? Interact positively and communicate well (written and verbal) with all staff levels. ? Effective presentation skills. ? Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act and the requirements of the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising good judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines.
