ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR INTERNAL AUDIT- HEALTHCARE

The University of Washington (UW) is seeking an Associate Director for its Internal Audit department, a role that is pivotal in managing and leading a comprehensive internal audit services program. This position is designed for a professional who will oversee the preparation of University-wide audit plans, conduct audits of various organized units, programs, activities, functional areas, and information systems, and investigate allegations of improper governmental activities and misuse of University resources. The Associate Director will also provide consultations and advisory services in response to special requests from management and conduct follow-up reviews of management corrective actions. In this role, the Associate Director will be responsible for presenting information to the Regents and various committees, including finance and audit committees, patient safety & quality committees, and high-level executives. The position requires collaboration with individuals across the University, from the Regents and President & Provost to Deans, Administrators, and entry-level staff. The Associate Director will oversee complex conversations with Executives regarding personnel who have violated University policies, rules, and regulations due to investigations and audits. This role also involves coordinating audit-related activities with University affiliates such as Fred Hutch Cancer Center and Seattle Children's, necessitating an extensive knowledge of federal, state, and other regulatory laws and regulations, as well as the underlying business processes and controls governed by these pronouncements. The Associate Director will operate across the entirety of the University, including all three academic campuses and all medical facilities. The reports generated by this position and their teams can significantly impact internal controls across the University, both academically and administratively. Given the current landscape of frequent and costly compliance issues in higher education and healthcare, the Internal Audit function is crucial. This position will have a major impact on the success of the internal audit function at the University of Washington.
Responsibilities
? Direct the execution of the internal audit plan and manage assignments of professional staff in the performance of audits, management requests, and investigations to ensure compliance with department and professional standards.

? Perform an annual risk assessment and prepare the annual University audit plan.

? Oversee the regulatory external audit liaison function, including state, federal, and other sponsor auditors.

? Provide advisory services through one-on-one consultations, training, or participation on University cross-functional and process work groups and committees as appropriate.

? Manage HR functions such as supervising audit seniors in their development, including reviewing and approving annual performance plans and recruitment.

? Provide regular updates of Internal Audit projects to University executives and audit committees.

? Participate or lead internal quality assurance/improvement projects as required by professional standards and meet CPE requirements to maintain certifications.

? Handle other administrative work such as attending staff/manager meetings, updating office procedures, developing department budgets, and approving certain expenses.
Requirements
? Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, information technology, or related field.

? Professional Certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, or equivalent).

? 10 years of audit experience, including experience in specialized fields such as higher education, healthcare, IT, and supervisory experience.
