About the position

The Grant Program Coordinator position at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center plays a crucial role in the submission of grant proposals to both federal and non-federal sponsors. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating grant submissions, renewals, progress reports, and other necessary documentation required for proposal submission to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and the respective sponsors. The coordinator will work closely with principal investigators to ensure that all components of grant submissions are meticulously prepared and submitted in accordance with the specific requirements and deadlines set by the granting agencies. In the pre-award phase, which constitutes 80% of the role, the coordinator is tasked with ensuring that proposals are properly formatted, packaged, and approved in the Research Compliance Tracking System (RCTS) or designated MDA application. A key aspect of this role is the development of research budgets, which requires a deep understanding of the resources needed for laboratory-based research, including supplies, core facility services, and personnel costs. The coordinator will also participate in the preparation and submission of sponsored projects, providing administrative support under the guidance of the Program Manager. This includes maintaining organized grant files, preparing budgets, coordinating site visits, and mentoring others in the grant program process. The post-award responsibilities, which account for 20% of the position, involve maintaining knowledge of grant and contract funding policies and advising the department on any changes that may impact funded operations. The coordinator will work closely with the Finance Team to provide updates on grant expenditures, compliance monitoring, and the management of fund allocation across multiple projects. This role requires proactive monitoring of grant activity to ensure compliance and timely closure of expired accounts, as well as facilitating budgetary changes and no-cost extensions as needed. Overall, the Grant Program Coordinator is essential in ensuring the successful management and execution of grant-funded projects within the institution.
