Reports To: Children and Youth Services Coordinator
Pay: Stipend: $500 for every 100 hours or work study (University of MN or St. Thomas)
Hours and days: Wednesdays 4pm - 8pm and additional day a week- Approximately 6-10 hours/week; some evening hours required (until 8pm)
About the Position: This position plays a key role in providing programming for youth who have experienced homelessness. YPAs bring their strengths and passions to develop, facilitate, and engage youth in enrichment activities while building supportive, positive relationships with youth, parents, and community volunteers.
What will you do:
- Work with staff and program partners to deliver program sessions.
- Plan and prep age-appropriate enrichment activities for youth.
- Facilitate activities during sessions.
- Develop relationships with youth participating in programming.
- Provide feedback and guidance to volunteers.
- Serve as a role model to youth through consistent attendance and reliability and help maintain a safe, positive environment for youth, volunteers and staff.
- Assist with behavior management and redirection as needed.
- Set up program materials, snacks, and program space, assist with clean-up of program space.
- Organize program space; keep program space clean and tidy.
- Assist with other projects as assigned.
- Self-starter and self-directed, ability to work independently on assigned projects.
- Experience with youth (after-school program, camp counseling, tutoring, etc.).
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving and time management skills.
- Dependable, responsible, flexible, and patient.
- Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and engage diverse youth.
- Ability to adhere to HIPPAA and data privacy requirements.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work on site and directly with youth.
- Gain experience working with youth and families.
- Training, guidance and mentoring from experienced professionals in the field.
- Professional development experiences may include trainings, workshops, team meetings and events and can be tailored to the intern?s goals and field of study.
- In person, some remote work may be available on a limited basis.
- Applicants should expect an active work environment, setting up and cleaning the physical space and engaging directly with youth.
