Position Summary



Accessible Education and Disability Resources (AEDR) is seeking to fill the position of a full-time counselor as a member of the AEDR team which strives to ensure equal access for students with disabilities. AEDR leads the campus community to recognize disability as a valued aspect of diversity, embrace access as a matter of social justice, and to promote universal design and inclusive environments.



The role of counselor focuses on designing individualized accommodation plans through an interactive process with students with disabilities. The process includes determining eligibility, arranging for accommodations, providing supportive counseling and guidance, and working together with faculty to implement accommodations. The counselor assists students to connect with and navigate college and community resources. This may involve communication and meeting with colleagues in campus student services offices such as financial aid, advising, and career services.



The position responsibilities include review of educational and medical documentation for eligibility and determination of accommodations, meeting with students both online and in person, recording case notes and participation in weekly practitioner meetings. The position is on-site flex with an expectation of working 75% on-site. This position reports directly to the Student Accommodations Manager.



Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ADA/504 laws and regulations and current changes in the field.



  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging models of disability such as a social justice or cultural model of disability, as opposed to a strictly medical model.



  • Experience in post-secondary education



  • Knowledge about a wide range of disabilities including physical, sensory, health, mental, and learning differences.



  • Experience in planning and providing academic adjustments for students with disabilities.



  • Experience reviewing medical and psychometric documentation, analyzing diagnostic test results, and interviewing students as a basis for making appropriate recommendations for accommodations.



  • Experience providing counseling and guidance services to meet the educational, personal, and vocational needs of students with disabilities.



  • Experience serving as a consultant to students, college staff, and community groups on disability issues.



  • Experience collaborating with outside agencies (e.g. Vocational Rehabilitation, Commission for the Blind) regarding individual student's needs

Minimum Qualifications



To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).



  • Education: Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling & Guidance, Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Social Work, or related area required. Degree must be from an accredited institution.



  • Experience: Two years of experience providing academic, personal and/or disability management counseling services to clients who experience a disability. Internship experience may be counted.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience developing and facilitating training opportunities on topics related to disability and accessibility.



  • Experience using shared information management systems to document decision-making, review and enter data, track issues, and record case notes from a team perspective.

Starting Salary Expectations



Initial Salary Placement up to Step 3 $68,491.00 will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.



Position Grade Salary Range $64562 to $103562 Annual Salary

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements



Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required.

Non-instructional faculty shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Non-instructional faculty with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.



These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.



Work is generally performed in an office environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Incumbents are required to produce and interact with written information on a regular basis, and to participate in meetings at different locations across the district.

PCC's Clery Specialist will (1) analyze the report for issuance of a timely warning or emergency notification; and (2) will determine if the report should be included in the annual statistical disclosures. The Clery Specialist shall annually assign CSAs online Clery Act training to ensure they are provided proper training to fulfill their reporting responsibilities required by the Clery Act and PCC's Clery Act policy.
