GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Attorney General's office seeks an attorney to serve as the managing attorney for the Casper office. This position will provide general supervisory duties, including managing and mentoring the attorneys and legal assistants in the Casper office. The attorneys in the Casper office represent the Enhanced Oil Recovery Commission, Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and the Department of Workforce Services.

In addition to the supervisory duties, the managing attorney will also be required, in part, to provide legal representation and advice to the Enhanced Oil Recovery Commission, Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and the Department of Workforce Services. The managing attorney will be required, when necessary, to advise these agencies on day-to-day legal matters, review administrative rules and regulations, advise these agencies with respect to relevant statutes and administrative procedures, represent them before administrative tribunals, and review draft legislation to advise the Governor and clients.

This managing attorney will also serve as the prosecuting attorney in administrative matters for the Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, Professional Teaching Standards Board, Gaming Commission, and the Collections Agency Board.

  • The ability to analyze complicated legal and factual issues and to present complicated issues clearly in written and oral form. The applicant should feel comfortable speaking before courts, writing letters and briefs, and advocating Wyoming's interests to federal and state courts/tribunals and to the general public.
  • The ability to manage, mentor, and develop diverse individuals both personally and professionally. The applicant should bring enough experience to the position to feel comfortable counseling multiple attorneys on a wide range of substantive and procedural issues in federal and state forums.
  • Advise agency clients with respect to relevant statutes and administrative procedures.
  • Stay current in legal literature in all aspects of the relevant law to provide current assistance to clients and other staff attorneys with questions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris Doctorate

Experience:

7+ years of relevant legal experience. Has recognized expertise in at least one area of law.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Requires membership in the State Bar as an attorney qualified to practice law in the State of Wyoming.

  • FLSA: Exempt
  • If you are not currently admitted to the Wyoming State Bar, you will need to subsequently get admitted to the Wyoming State Bar.
  • This position is at-will and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Attorney General (W.S. 9-1-608).
  • Successful applicants are required to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Salary is commensurate with relevant legal experience and supervisory experience.
