Pay: This position is a contract position and contractor will be paid a 60/40 split with 60% of resident rate paid to contractor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Dance instruction of classes such as hip-hop, urban, ballet, tap, jazz or other specialized dance forms;

Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level; develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality programs; provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials; develop, design, promote and teach dance programming for children aged 3 to adult level;

Monitor participants and their ability to participate; monitor attire to properly perform, i.e., shoes, etc., if applicable.

Provide a safe environment for all participants; enforce all general building policies if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Accident Reports, Health Forms, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.

Attend scheduled meetings as required; responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.

Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction. Performs related work as required and assigned.

Provide quality customer service which includes interaction with participants and parents of participants, reporting any issues or accidents/injuries per City policies.

Work is performed in accordance with standard practice and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and judgment to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality and completeness. Unfamiliar situations are referred to the supervisor.

Work under the direct supervision of the assigned Recreation Coordinator.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge - Principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; of rules and regulations; of anatomy, exercise science, related dance technique, choreography, class format and injury prevention.

Skills - Public relations; in the operation of necessary equipment; must be versatile in all developmental stages.

Abilities - Plan, instruct, and supervise the assigned class; control large groups of people; follow instructions; remain current on the trends of the industry; communicate effectively to the participants; analyze situations quickly and determine proper courses of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:

Training - General knowledge of dance instruction. Prefer one year of experience, but not necessary with the right education and/or certifications.

Supplemental Information

American Red Cross or American Heart Association Child/Adult CPR and First Aid certifications required.
