The Insurance Verifier position at Houston Methodist is responsible for obtaining and recording eligibility and benefit information for patients, confirming authorizations, and completing admission notifications. This role involves calculating patient liability and generating estimates to determine financial responsibility, while ensuring effective communication with patients, co-workers, insurance companies, and physicians.
Responsibilities
? Obtain and record eligibility and benefit information for patients.

? Confirm authorizations and complete admission notifications as applicable.

? Calculate patient liability and generate estimates for financial responsibility.

? Serve as a liaison between patients, facility, physicians, and department for financial clearance.

? Monitor and track authorizations, ensuring accurate CPT codes and expiration dates.

? Communicate with scheduling to inform patients of authorization status.

? Respond promptly to requests and maintain open communication regarding financial clearance status.

? Ensure timely and accurate documentation of benefits and patient liabilities.

? Notify payers of patient admissions or procedures for reimbursement.

? Organize time effectively and assist team members during heavy workloads.
Requirements
? High School diploma or equivalent education.
,
? One year of healthcare experience, including insurance verification, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting.

? Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of electronic health record software (EPIC preferred).

? Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care reimbursement methodologies.

? Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

? Mid-level medical terminology knowledge and understanding of insurance requirements.
Nice-to-haves
? Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and/or ICD-10 codes.
