About the position

Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as a Hospital Charge Specialist. This is a full-time position that is remote for residents of Virginia or Northeastern North Carolina. The standard working hours for this role are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (ET), with weekends required every other weekend (Saturday-Sunday or Tuesday-Saturday). The Hospital Charge Specialist is responsible for the complete, compliant, and timely daily charge capture of emergency department (ED) departmental chargeable medication administration, bedside services, and other lines of service as assigned. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all appropriate billing charges are captured, documented, charged, and reimbursed for the assigned department. In this role, the specialist will query and/or submit requests to physicians for additional information or clarification of procedures as necessary. It is essential that the charging practices fall within established compliance guidelines. The position also involves performing other related duties as requested by Health Information Management (HIM) management. A strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT/HCPCS guidelines, and Medicare regulatory guidelines is required to succeed in this position. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an Associate's degree, with one or more years of experience in Charge Description Master, Hospital Billing, Charge Capture, or Outpatient Coding preferred. Additionally, certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

Requirements
? Associate's degree preferred.
