About the position

The DOR Accountant IV position within the Bureau of Accounts at the Department of Revenue is responsible for reviewing and approving state house notes in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws and Bureau procedures. The role also involves treasury-related processes such as cash flow analysis and providing technical assistance to municipalities. The incumbent will serve as a field representative for a small inventory of cities and towns, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial management.

Responsibilities
? Process State House Notes of cities, towns, counties and districts in conformity with Mass. General Laws and Bureau procedures.

? Calculate free cash according to Bureau standards determining the funds available for appropriation for cities, towns, districts and regional school districts.

? Perform review and certification of tax rates following Bureau policy and procedures.
,
? Review the Schedule A to determine its accuracy and proper presentation, communicating with each assigned community to resolve any issues identified.

? Review audit reports and management letters submitted to the Division of Local Services, reporting significant findings to Division supervisors and managers.

? Assist in the development of various training sessions and procedure manuals offered by the Division.
,
? Provide local officials and staff accountants with technical assistance, including accounting assistance and completing Division reports.

? Participate in special reviews and provide informal assistance to entities through various communication methods.
,
? Assist Bureau and/or Division supervisors in the development and implementation of policies and special projects.

? Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
? At least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing.
,
? At least one year of experience in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
,
? A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or business management may substitute for a maximum of one year of required experience.
,
? A Graduate degree in accounting, business administration or business management may substitute for a maximum of two years of required experience.

Nice-to-haves
? Municipal accounting and/or auditing experience.
,
? Treasury management/municipal debt experience.
