About the position

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a Program Coordinator I to assist with abstraction of violent death and drug overdose death data for the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) and the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) in South Carolina. The Program Coordinator I will serve as a Region Lead for NVDRS abstraction and will assist with SUDORS abstraction. This position will work with personally identifiable information and will involve various responsibilities including data abstraction, quality assurance, and compliance with guidelines.

Responsibilities
? Abstract violent death and drug overdose death data from death certificates, coroner and law enforcement reports, postmortem toxicology, and supplemental records.

? Enter de-identified data into a secure cloud-based data system approved by NVDRS and SUDORS.
,
? Conduct abstractions at DPH and at data providers' offices throughout the state, requiring travel.
,
? Assist with record retrieval and data quality activities for assigned DPH regions.
,
? Search county and municipal coroners and law enforcement websites and social media accounts for official press releases.
,
? Assist with NVDRS and SUDORS data closeouts and submissions.
,
? Engage in quality assurance and improvement activities including case validation, quality control, and re-abstractions.
,
? May assist with compilation, publication, and presentation of data for internal and external stakeholders.
,
? Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and adhere to DPH and CDC NVDRS and SUDORS guidelines and policies.
,
? Safeguard personally identifiable information by complying with all data integrity and security policies.

Requirements
? A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
,
? Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, other health-related field, or criminal justice.
,
? One or more years of experience in law enforcement, pre-hospital healthcare, healthcare, or death investigation.
,
? Proficiency in navigating computer systems with demonstrated ability to learn new data systems quickly.
,
? Ability to read, interpret, and summarize key findings from investigative and clinical reports.

Nice-to-haves
? Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and One Drive application.
,
? Experience working in virtual and hybrid environments with remote partners and teams.
