This is a remote position ? incumbents, who reside in Oregon or Washington only, may work at home, on the road or in a satellite location for all or part of their workweek. There may be occasional situations that require work to be performed on-site at an assigned Legacy Health location.
All new hires are required to come to a designated Legacy Health office location in Portland, Oregon prior to their start date for a new hire health assessment and to complete new hire paperwork.
Note that our employee health plan coverage is for providers based in the Legacy Health geographic region. To find providers in our network . Urgent and emergent coverage is available outside Legacy Health?s geographic region and telehealth is available within Oregon and Washington.
This position may require initial training and orientation to be site-based, before transitioning to the remote schedule.
Responsibilities
The Hospital Coding Trainer will function in a self-directed manner to assess, plan, and develop training plans, and implement and evaluate Hospital Coding workflows for new hires with or without hospital coding experience.
Provide quality review for all the hospital coding patient types. Train lower level or inexperienced (i.e. recent graduates) coders for productive frontline hospital coding.
Reviews, develops, modifies and/or adapts relevant training materials, presentations, and curriculum in collaboration with department management, subject matter experts, and approved online training resources in a timely manner.
Provides support in the ongoing training, implementation, and optimal utilization of encoder software (3M) and Epic coding functions.
Qualifications
Education:
Associate Degree of Applied Science for Medical Coding Specialist or equivalent 2 year program.
Experience:
Four years of Hospital Facility coding experience in any combination of diagnostic, ED, and outpatient surgery account types required. Inpatient coding experience preferred in addition to the required experience. Two years experience with 3M HDM 360 coding application and use of Epic EHR preferred. Two years trainer/instructor experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to pass coding assessment with 85% or better.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use Epic (or similar electronic health record) for documentation.
Demonstrated detailed knowledge of Medical coding systems, procedures, and documentation requirements.
Demonstrated proficiency of ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 PCS, and CPT.
Understands and applies adult learning principles.
Proven advanced communication skills-both written and verbal. Able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization.
Ability to train individuals with different learning styles.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of computer system software and hardware components, (e.g. MS Office Windows operating system, dual screen projection).
Demonstrated fundamental understanding of patient workflow.
Demonstrated fundamental understanding of policies and procedures.
Demonstrated classroom management, mentoring and teaching skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and collaboration skills.
