Job description: The Coordinator of Fine Arts provides leadership in the development, implementation, and management of the fine arts programs for each grade level (K-12) at Battle Creek Public Schools, The Fine Arts Lead Teacher provides guidance in identifying appropriate instructional strategies, and providing professional development. This position is also responsible for facilitating the development of a a comprehensive K-12 Fine Arts curriculum. Program areas include visual arts, theater, instrumental and vocal music, and dance.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports individual school fine arts teachers in teaching state arts core curriculum and coordinates school, and district wide activities in achieving state, district, and school goals in the fine arts.
Counsels with and mediates for classroom fine arts teachers.
Coordinates teacher training and in-service.
Prepares budget and monitors expenses for state, district, and individual school fine arts programs.
Monitors arts needs assessments and prioritizes budgets.
Coordinates fine arts activities in schools that are presented to schools from outside sources.
Prepares and coordinates the district fine arts activities calendar.
Coordinates the purchase and maintenance of fine arts programs equipment.
Facilitates the development, implementation, and management of the Fine Arts program for each grade level K-12), provide guidance in identifying appropriate instructional strategies, is responsible for the Fine Arts program, and represent the programs in the community and state.
Guide the selection of relevant instructional materials, e.g., textbooks, software, music, etc.
Plan and deliver professional learning sessions.
Provide assistance to classroom teachers and principals in instructional theory and practice.
Prepare, manage, and oversee the Fine Arts budget and requests.
Provide placement assignments and specific schedules of all Fine Arts staff members
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master?s Degree preferred and prior classroom instruction experience preferred in both secondary and elementary levels.
Active Michigan Teacher Certification required.
Active Michigan Administrator Certification required
Membership in and leadership experience shown in professional arts groups expected.
Evidence of professional development as required by the State of Michigan as appropriate
Technology skills at a level capable of creating spreadsheets, data reports, and other relevant information
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Keen awareness of the moral imperative to work in the best interest of all children.
High level of instructional expertise
Experience in a diverse, urban school settings
*Note: This is not a supervisory position and does not include the evaluation of colleagues.
Compensation: $50,000-$82,010
Additional signing bonus of $1,500, payable upon commencement of employment
Organizational Relationship: Responsible to the Assistant Superintendent
