The Optum PNW General Accounting Department is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team full time. This position can be fully remote/ telecommute with preference given to candidates located in Western Washington.

The Assistant Controller functions as an integral member of the team and

under minimal supervision, responsible for coordinating and reporting various activities as they relate to producing financial information. Responsible for the preparation of all monthly financial reports. Oversees the general ledger. Serves as technical advisor for accessing information from accounting systems. Coordinates the annual budget process and year-end audit with external auditors. Assists with internal controls and SOX compliance. Effectively manages multiple simultaneous projects and achieves effective and timely results.

The Assistant Controller is responsible for and not limited to:

Essential Functions:
? Partners with the regional controller on regional strategy, projects, acquisitions, and growth
? Ownership of the Risk accounting lane, including GL close, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, OCN?s comprehensive estimates and explanations, and team development
? Ownership of the FFS accounting lane, including GL close, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements, FFS revenue estimates and explanations, and team development
? Develops, implements, and maintains processes and procedures for accurate and timely analysis of financial data, ensuring best practices.
? Develops and maintains internal control structure and procedures for financial reporting.
? Resolves high level financial reporting issues.
? Manages the audit process and work with outside auditors regarding accounting and reporting issues.
? Oversees the preparation and analysis of internal reporting, ensuring the quality, reliability, and timeliness of the reports.
? Provides operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, rules, regulation, and laws.
? Summarizes findings on the monthly, quarterly, or annual reports to senior management, auditors, and regulators.
? Leads and supports future integration projects and initiatives
? Partners with the leadership team on regional strategy, projects, acquisitions, and growth
? Maintains and supports financial internal control environment, including documentation and self-testing
? Participates in regional leadership meetings and initiatives
? Liaises with OptumCare and Care Delivery Finance and local market executive management
? Oversees the SG&A accounting for the PNW-WA region, including AP, payroll, and all non-clinical SG&A
? Prepares FFS reporting and financial statements, including cost/management accounting, monthly summary presentations/decks, same store/growth reporting, etc. Partners directly with Western Washington CEO, COO, and regional controller on development and maintenance of these reports
? Leads the team through change in a positive and intentional way, with a focus on staff development and team building
? Prepares monthly WD-3 and WD+1 estimates for Other revenue and SG&A for TEC and TPC
? Partners with the business office for allowance calculations, and ensuring a complete set of processes are in place to monitor collection rate, aged AR, days in AR, bad debt, charge lag times, etc.
? Analyzes monthly performance and variance analysis, including monthly trends, YoY, MoM, etc.
? Monitors daily revenue, visits, and other metric trending
? Monitors balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness via the account reconciliation process
? Partners with regional finance on forecasting, variance analysis, budget preparation, and monthly reporting needs
? Maintains and supports financial internal control environment for FFS, including documentation and self-testing
? Partners with the OptumCare Network team on FFS rates, incentives, allocations, etc. as the two groups continue to partner in the future
? Works with the revenue cycle team to develop additional procedures and reporting capabilities
? Integrates new businesses and tuck ins, as applicable
? Participates in regional controllership meetings and initiatives
? Oversees the fixed asset accounting for the PNW region, including capitalization, retirement, tax, WIP, etc.
? Liaises with OptumCare and Care Delivery Finance and local market executive management
? Collaborates with other functional areas within OptumCare: Care Delivery FP&A, HealthCare Economics, Financial Data Management, General Operations
? Collaborates with other functional areas within the broader UHG organization (e.g. Legal, Corporate Accounting, Accounting Policy, Capital Planning, Regulatory Reporting, Regulatory FP&A), as necessary
? Monitors and proactively tracks risks and opportunities
? Provides operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, and various applicable rules and regulations
? Supports the Company's strategic and operational planning initiatives, as applicable
? Manages, mentors and assists staff
? Ad hoc and special project ownership
? Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education:
? Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance

Experience:
? 10+ years of progressive work experience in accounting
? 7+ years past management / supervisory experience
? 1+ years of prior healthcare experience
? Excellent PC skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other financial reporting tools
? Knowledge of finance and accounting functions, including G/L, cost accounting, financial reporting and internal controls. Maintain current knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles). Knowledge of management practices to direct assigned staff. Knowledge of Clinic?s strategic business objectives and employee performance objectives

Experience:
? Knowledge and work experience with Infinium, Kaufman Hall and Cognos

Certificate/License:
? CPA/ CMA
